Andy Ruiz Jr has revealed he plans on losing at least 10lbs for his December rematch with Anthony Joshua.
At the weigh-in, Joshua’s fans chanted ‘you fat b*****d’ at Ruiz Jr, but he silenced them by taking the unbeaten Brit’s WBA, IBF & WBO heavyweight belts with a TKO in round seven. Fans can watch Ruiz vs AJ fight live in the US via DAZN.
Prior to the first fight, the Mexican-American was unfancied and a strong underdog, mainly due to his portly physique and love of the chocolate bar Snickers, which he is known to consume while training for a fight. Joshua vs Ruiz 2 live stream
Ruiz Jr, who weighed in at 268lbs (19st 2lbs) last time out, shared an image on Instagram looking noticeably slimmer and insists he does want to make some changes before the pair clash in Saudi Arabia.
“I kind of wanted to be a little heavier because Anthony Joshua’s big, I wanted to carry his weight, take the punches well but I think being 10lbs lighter, I’m going to be a better fighter,” Ruiz said.
It is not only Ruiz who is keen to alter his appearance, with much being made of Joshua’s new leaner look, with considerably less muscle mass than before.
However, Ruiz is far from fazed and confidently predicted the way he believed AJ would approach his shot at redemption.
“He looks a little slimmer, but I don’t think that’s going to do any different,” Ruiz added.
